Who says it has to be on paper?

I want to decorate a coffee mug. I found this cute monster on craft.tutsplus.com to copy from.

Last night a lovely empty bottle appeared like magic on the countertop.  Why not use it for a practice run?

Voila! Excellent place for a monster.

Just So Ya Know

While goofing around on facebook the other day, I saw the cutest video of a kangaroo and an ant eater. They were playing together and the kangaroo scared the ant eater. Apparently when frightened,  ant eaters stand up to look extra cute so  their attacker will not harm them. I really don't know...it just seemed logical to me. Here's a drawing of the cute defense in action.

The Rescued Kitty Story

Once upon a time, a compassionate young lady rescued a kitty and found him a loving home. Afterwards she got a sweet thank you note from the owners with a illustration of said kitty on the front cover.
I thought it was so cute that I had to do my own version of the kitty drawing.
I love happy endings!

It's been a while...

Hello! I am back again. A lot has happened in my life. Left my old job and started a new one. Bought a house and moved to the country. I am sort of missing Charlotte, but I really like the slower pace of life in Belmont. I've been really focused on everything except for drawing and blogging.

Anyway, I was doing some temp work and found a lovely crab on the receptionist's desk that I was filling in for that day. That crab kept starring at me. I knew what it wanted. It was begging for me to sketch it.

Awwww....Cute Crab!
So I looked through Ellen's things...a behold, a red pen. I was so happy that the company asked if I brought a book to read, which meant to me please entertain yourself in between answering the phones. No problem! So here is the result of sitting at a desk with no internet access. What a cute crab!

Doggies

While going through a stack of books about the history of animation, I found these cute doggies. I decided to draw them. I hope one to be able to actually make an animated cartoon. Still trying to learn the Pencil Animation freeware. I will get it one day.

Nova's Bakery and Urban Sketchers

Well, one of my inspirations for beginning this blog in the first place was another blog called Urban Sketchers. It's a remarkable blog where many wonderful artists contribute their artwork from all around the world. They are simply sketching their city surroundings. It all looks all so easy until you try it.

One afternoon I was going to try on location drawing. Instead of standing there drawing, I just took a picture of Nova's Bakery and decided to sketch from that instead.  So this is the sketch that resulted.

Originally I thought that you needed to go to cities like Charleston and Savannah to find gems to sketch, but that's not true. Charlotte's got a lot!

Hopefully I can get more into sketching on location. Stay tuned!
